Program Overview

Shop Whidbey.com was created to be an all-in-one shopping database for shoppers on Whidbey Island. If you reside here on the island, you know how important it is to our local economy to shop locally and avoid the big corporate chain stores. If you own a small business, you know all too well how hard it is to compete with the mega-million dollar heavy hitters of advertising, and can't afford commercial airtime on networks like NBC, ABC, CBS, and FOX. Well, we have the answer. We at Atypical Development have created this database for use by everyone on Whidbey Island, and we hope that people will stop here first and choose to shop local instead of corporately.
So as a small business owner, you're thinking to yourself "Great. Another advertisement. More money out of our budget that is already slim month to month. I don't think we'd be interested, we just can't afford it." Just keep this in mind. We designed this for the shopper, and for the small business owner. So why would we price it out of reach of even the smallest self-owned, home operated, shoestring budget business? Membership to Shop Whidbey is free. Yes, we said FREE. If you do choose however to invest in advertising on our site, or even becoming a featured member for a month, our rates make sure that everyone can participate. Using the directory is free as well, so you will be advertising to everyone who has internet access. If you would like a profile in our directory, the following pages outline what is included in the membership package, as well as our advertising rates.
Inclusion into this unique online directory is based on your business qualifying for the program. The only requirements are as follows:
• You must be located on Whidbey Island. Simply doing business on Whidbey Island does not qualify you for Shop Whidbey.com. Your mailing address or storefront location must be physically located on Whidbey Island.
• You must be locally owned and operated, and not have generic national advertising. While some chain franchises will be considered, most others will not. (ex: Pizza Factory is a franchise, but has no generic national advertising. They will be allowed, while McDonalds, Wal-Mart, Safeway, etc. will not.)
If you feel your business qualifies and would like to participate, please review the terms and conditions, and click here to fill out our online profile request form.
